"A native of Maine, (he) came to Massachusetts and first located in Lowell, removing later to Groveland. He was an active leader and worker in the Republican cause, serving as a Selectman of the Town of Groveland, as a member of the State Legislature in 1870, and as a member of the State Senate in 1874 and 1875.
