Source for the info below is SAR Application #85119 of Frank Bailey dated 8 Nov 1959: "William Norris is the ancestor who assisted in establishing American Independence while acting in the capacity of 1st Lieutenant, commissioned in the Fauquier Militia, Capt. Attwell's Company, Nov. 1777, again on Mar 24, 1778. He had served Edmond's Company of Virginia Troops on Mar. 25, 1762. Lt. Norris was born in England and Emigrated to America with his two brothers prior to 1760. His brothers settled, one in Maryland, the other in Pennsylvania; he settled in Fauquier County, Virginia and Married Hannah Bell.

"He died in 1802 and his will, dated Dec. 1, 1801, was probated April 26, 1802. The will named his children as John, Joseph, Samuel, William, Elizabeth, Hannah, Ellen, Sarah, Mary Catherine, Nancy Bailey and Susannah Robinson.
