William Morris was baptised on 19th June 1785 at Husborne Crawley in Bedfordshire, son of Joseph and Hannah Morris. William's parents had only recently moved to Husborne Crawley; the year they had obtain an indemnity certificate from the parish of Podington, over twenty miles to the north of Husborne Crawley, allowing them to live in other parishes but still be the responsibility of the Podington authorities if they ever needed to claim poor relief.

William was married at Husborne Crawley on 11th October 1808, aged 23, to Catherine Goodman. They went on to have nine children together between 1809 and 1824, although at least two died young. The first four children were baptised at Husborne Crawley. Some time between 1814 and 1818 the family moved to Podington, where William's parents had lived before his birth, where their younger five children were baptised.

The 1841 census finds William, Catherine and their son Joseph living in Podington. William was working as an agricultural labourer. Ten years later at Podington, William and Catherine had their sons Daniel and Joseph living with them as well as two girls who appear to be Joseph's daughters - it would seem Joseph's wife had recently died. William was described as a pauper at this time.

William died in 1855, aged 70. Catherine survived him by about two years.
