Obituary

WESTMINSTER- William B. MacAloney Jr., 76, of 6 Academy Hill Road, a World War II veteran and a retired fire chief, died Monday, March 17, in Wing Memorial Hospital, Palmer, after a long illness. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Anna M. (Schepens) MacAloney; a daughter, Patricia A. Feeley of Westminster; a son, Brenton W. MacAloney of Westminster; a brother, Raymond MacAloney of Emerson, Md.; four grandchildren; several foster sisters; nieces and nephews. He was born in Fitchburg, son of William B. MacAloney Sr. and Marion G. (Parmenter) MacAloney. He was educated in Westminster schools, graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1944, from Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner and from the Massachusetts Fire Academy. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. MacAloney was a member of the Westminster Fire Department from 1946 to 1991, serving as chief from 1986 to 1991, and was the town's first full-time fire chief. He also worked for Dawley-Shepard Cracker Co., Crocker Burbank Paper Co., Weyerhaeuser Paper Co., Crocker Tech Paper Co., and Heywood-Wakefield Co. in Gardner. He did maintenance for the town, maintained town memorials and was a part-time police officer. Among his memberships, he was affiliated with William S. Miller American Legion Post 174, First Congregational Church of Westminster, the Westminster Band, and Westminster Elementary School Parent Teacher Association. He also enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, hunting, golf and woodworking. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, in First Congregational Church of Westminster, 138 Main St. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery.
