- Orphans Court Docket A:92, 14 Mar 1796 - "Petition of John Cochran, Samuel Cochran, Margaret Cochran,Sr., Margaret Cochran,Jr. & Robert Cochran, showing that William Cochran Sr. died intestate owning a tract of land on Loyalhanna Creek in Derry Twp, containing 380 acres 58 perches, surveyed on a warrant dated 26 Feb 1788; and leaving a widow, Margaret, and seven children: Robert, Jean w/o John Cochran, Mary w/o David Rankin (since deceased and leaving 6 children: Jean, William, Mathew, Margaret, Chambers, and Matty, all under age), William, Margaret, Samuel and James, and requesting an inquest to view the property and make partition, or else value the land.".
- OC Docket A:100 -" Report of the inquisiton held at the dwelling house of Margaret Cochran, Widow, in Derry Twp on 7 Apr. 1796...in presence of John Shields, guardian of the children of Mary Rankin, and all concerned (except James Cochran who was in the Spanish Dominion down the Mississippi) showing that the land could not be divided without injury..."
- OC Docket A: 94, 13 June 1796 - "Robert Cochran, eldest s/o William Cochran dec'd, renounces his right to the land. William Cochran, second son, renounces his right as well. Samuel Cochran, third son, requests that the property be assigned to him and agrees to pay in one year from this date the shares and interest to his mother and brothers and sisters..."
- OC Docket A:93, 14 June 1796 - "Samuel Cochran of Derry Twp.... John Shields Esq of Salem Twp...John Craig of Unity Twp...acknowledge themselves to stand indebted to Margaret Cochran (widow of William Cochran), John Cochran, Margaret Cochran Jr., Jean Cochran and Mary Cochran, on condition that Samuel Cochran in one year from this date pay to the other children of William Cochran dec'd their shares of 684 (pounds) PA currency with interest, and to his mother during her life the interest on the remaining third, and at her death pay the other children their shares from this third."
