William Akin was an immigrant settler of Scottish descent who came to South Carolina in the mid-1700s, settling in York Co., South Carolina, alongside other Scots-Irish Presbyterians in that community. He was the father of Rev. John Akin, a Methodist minister who later settled in Maury Co., Tennessee.
