Facts and Events
His name was also spelled Aelinckhave and Oellinckhave. In the Court Records series: Willem ten Olinckhave was Mayor of Lochem over the years 1607-1630. He was dead by 20 May, 1630. In June 1613 he testified that his age was 68 years old. Notes from "The Van Barkeloo Family's Dutch Ancestry": ...Lochem, Holland was in 1582 battle frontline territory: the war of Independence against Spain was in full force (1568-1648). The Spanish troops had the town surrounded; the countyside was pillaged. The church at Geesteren became a place of refuge for the population in the general area. On 23 Sept. 1582 the siege of Lochem was lifted but the Spanish troops remained in the south and northeast of the county of Zutphen in which both places are located. In 1587 the Dutch troops leveled all buildings of major size, which included the church of Geesteren, in order to prevent the enemy from using it as fortification. In 1609 the twelve-year truce became effective and daily life could more or less continue in a normal fashion. After 1621 the hostilities resumed. In 1627 the last Spanish stronghold in the region, the town of Grol, was liberated and the rebuilding of dikes, roads, houses and farms could begin in earnest. The restoration of the church at Geesteren began in 1627. In that year, the court records of Borculo district commenced. (Gelre: bijdragen en mededelingen 1932 Volume XXXV:154) |
