In 1944, Violet enlisted in the Women?s Army Corp in communication, and she was stationed at Muroc Army Air Force Base, now Edwards Air Force Base in California. Violet went on to assist her husband Otsie in his insurance agency before they retired from insurance in 1985 and moved from Longmont, Colo. to Austin, Texas to be closer to their son Albert and his family. Violet finally settled down at their Log Hill property in Montrose, Colo. with her husband in 1998 where she lived until her death on Oct. 7, 2007.
