Page 86.—5th April, 1773. Thomas Wilson's will, farmer—To sons, Mathew and Samuel; to son, Nathaniel, 5/0; to each of five daughters, 5/0, viz: Rebekah, Martha, Elizabeth, Rhoda, and Sarrah; to son, Samuel; to wife.
Executors, brother Robert Willson and son-in-law James Wilson.
Teste: William Moore, Saml. McDowell, Andrew Moore.
Proved, 18th May, 1773, by William and Andrew Moore. Executors qualified with Thomas Tate and Andrew Moore.

Will Transcript

In the name of God Amen the fifth day of April in the year of our lord God 1773. I Thomas Willson of the County of Augusta, Tanner, being very much ailing a week in body but of Perfect mind and memory many thanks be to God therefore Calling unto mind the Mortallity of my Body & knowing that it is Appointed for all men once to die I do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament. Viz. Principally & first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the General resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty Power of God and as touching such worldly estate where with it hath Pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of this and in the following Manner and form.
Item I give and bequeath to my well beloved sons Matthew and Samuel Wilson their heirs & Assigns forever the tract of land that I now live on with the Improvements to be equally divided between them and Samuel to have the part that the dwelling house stands uppon and if the land should not be suitable for both to live uppon (in their Oppinions) I allow them to sell to the other and if they Can't agree on the terms they are to choose two or more men to make the terms between them and if they should both choose to live on the land Joint tennantcy is not to take place and as to my Moveable estate first I allow all my Just debts to be paid and the remainder to be divided in Mannner following:
I give and Bequeath to my son Nathaniel Wilson five Shillings sterling. I likewise give and bequeath five shillings to each of my five Daughters Viz, Rebekah, Martha, Elizabeth, Rhoda and Sarah.
I give to my son Samuel a sorrell Mare and her three Colts that were usually Called his.
I likewise confirm the Gift of a Mare formerly made to my daughter Sarrah which she has now in Possession and the remainder of my Moveable estate to be equally divided in three parts betwixt my Well beloved Wife and my two sons Matthew and Samuel Wilson.
I likewise allow my well beloved Wife the use of the dwelling house during her life & her two sons Matthew & Samuel her? Sufficiently to Maintain also two Cowes and a riding Creature if she request & if any Difference should happen betwixt them that she cannot enjoy a Comfortable living with them I allow her to choose a lodging and them then to give her six? Pounds Lawfull monty Yearly for Maintainance during her life and the above Legycys to be Paid my Executors & I do Appoint Constitute and Ordain Robert Wilson my Brother and James Wilson my son-in-law to be my hole & sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament & I do hereby Revoke disannul & make void all former Wills by me made.

At a Court held for Augusta County May the 18th 1773
This last Will and Testament of Thomas Wilson dec'd was proved by the Oaths of William Moore and Andrew Moore two of the witnesses thereto and Ordered to be Recorded & on the motion of Robert Wilson and James Wilson (The sd. therein named) who made oath According to law Certificate is Granted them for Obtaining a Probat thereof in due form they haveing with Security entered into and Acknowledged their Bond According to Law.
