Thomas Fancourt's origins have yet to be established. His first confirmed sighting is on 4th December 1769, when he married Ann Newborn at Stamford Baron, being that part of the town of Stamford on the south bank of the River Welland, which at that time was in Northamptonshire. Ann was seventeen and from the nearby village of Barnack. After their marriage, Thomas and Ann settled in Barnack, having five children baptised there between 1770 and 1789, although one died young. There is also a notable gap between the fourth and fifth children of almost twelve years, which may indicate that the family lived away from Barnack for a time before returning. Thomas has yet to be traced after the baptism of his youngest son in 1789. Ann appears to have died in Barnack in 1835. |
