Mrs. T. Irene Lauchner Gladding
Owens, 96, passed away on June 15,
2017. She was born March 30, 1921, on
a farm on Monie Creek near Princess
Anne in Somerset County, to the late
James E. and Ethelyn H. Lauchner.
She was raised in Princess Anne and
graduated from Washington High School.
Following graduation, she worked at the
local dress factory. She met and married
Charles Edward Gladding and moved to Oak Hall where she became a very active and beloved community member and was an active member of Downing's United Methodist Church.
She was made the postmaster of the Oak Hall post office in 1977, and retired in 1982, with 26 years of service. Her husband passed away in 1983. She met and married John W. Owens, Jan. 2, 1988, and moved to Lake Helen, Fla., where she lived the balance of her life.
Mrs. Owens is survived by her husband John W. Owens; one son, Jimmie Gladding; two grandsons, William Rutter and his wife, Candice, and their children, Grace and Adam Rutter, and Ryan Balogh and his fiancée, Rachel Melnick; a beloved daughter-in-law, Mary Margaret Gladding; two beloved nieces, Ireva Metcalf (Jim Dunham) and Ferebe Street; and three stepchildren, Rose Foxwell (Bobby), and John D. and Charles W. Owens.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Lauretta Gordon; a son, Charles Gladding and a granddaughter, Jaime Aaron.
A celebration of her life will be held
at Downings United Methodist Church
in Oak Hall on Sunday, July 16, 2017,
at 2 p.m. A reception will follow in the
fellowship hall.
