- Stephen and Mildred Gomes had five sons, Stephen Laurence, twins Dennis and Douglas (died), Ronald James and Geoffrey John. As of 2009 all sons still living and active. Dr.Stephen L. Gomes web site: www.gomesandcompany.com Interesting anecdote. Genealogical research and some family DNA testing seems to indicate that both the Gomes and Baptist families were orginally Portuguese Jewish families who were forced to convert to Catholicism sometime during the 15th century. In other words this is a converso (or in Hebrew - anousim ie. forced conversion) family.
- Stephen Gomes was born in Punene, Maui in stilt thatched roof sugar cane plantation workers hut. He had five siblings, Frank, Eva, Cecilia, Rose and Theresa,who lived to maturity and all lived in Santa Clara, California for most of their adult lives. Eva Gomes married Tom Gomes who owned Gomes Grocery in Santa Clara, California.
- Mildred Baptist(e) was one of three children of Louis Baptist and Eva Seabury (originally Silveira) who were both from Honolulu, Hawaii. Her brothers were Walter Baptist, and Laurence Baptist, a P-47 pilot who was shot down by the Germans and died in France during WWII. Louis Baptist was one of 12 children of Joao Baptista de Quintal (Changed his name to John Q. Baptist upon arriving in Hawaii) and Maria. John Q. Baptist was a successful businessman and dairyman in Honolulu during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
