Family tree▼ Facts and Events
"From old letters we gather that [Sarah] had a sister, Betsy, and brothers, Walter, John and others. The family moved to Gilbertsville, New York in 1813 where the family, nine in number, spent their first night in the home of Mr. Isaac Bedient. In 1833, she married a widower with seven children, Mr. Hiram Janes, in Monroe County, New York. In 1839, the family moved toward Johnstown, Wisonsin, evidently tarrying in Indiana where their son Henry Dode Janes was born. Hiram was thrown off a horse and died in 1847, leaving her with a large family. Later she married Isaac Drake. In 1873 while they were riding in a wagon, the horses became frightened by the train, and both were thrown, she being badly bruised, and Mr. Drake dying from effects of the accident. She raised her family on a small farm near Milton, Wisconsin. In 1878, she went to visit her son DeForest and wife Betsy who lived on their new farm near Spencer, Iowa, where they had cleared the land and broken the sod." S1 References
