Orange Co, VA Deed Book 1735-1741 FHL book; 22 May 1740 Jost HITE of Orange Co to Samuel WALKER of same. £6 for 100 acres on west side of Shenandoah River, part of 668 acres granted to Jost HITE on 3 Oct 1734 . . . at the north west corner of the tract.
Given the fact that this record is for someone living on Borden's Grant, a different Samuel Walker is probably meant Orange Co, VA Road Orders 1734-1749 FHL book. 27 Nov 1742 On the petition of the inhabitants of Borden's tract for a road from where James YOUNG lives on ye said Borden's tract to ye gap in the blue ridge of mountains commonly called Michael WOOD's Gap, it's ordered that the said road be cleared from the said YOUNG's through the timber grove from thence to ye foot of ye mountains leaving Patrick CAMPBELL's to ye northward, continuing an easterly course so on ye south side on ye south river to Samuel DAVIS's plantation thence to ye gap of ye mountains. And it's further ordered that Francis McCOWEN, Samuel WALKER,[2] Capt John BUCHANAN, Patrick HAYS, Charles CAMPBELL and Capt. John CHRISTIAN be hereby appointed overseers of ye said road, and that Col. James PATTON be desired to lay off for each overseer his precinct and men to clear each precinct on ye said road.
