Samuel Mahorter, son of Samuel Mehorter and Mary Watt, was born circa 1827 in Ireland. Samuel Mahorter immigrated circa 1845 to the United States. He appeared on the census of 12 August 1850 in the household of his mother in the 3rd ward of Moyamansing, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. On 7 October 1850, Samuel appeared before the clerk of the Court of General Quarter Session in Philadelphia to declare his intention to become a citizen of the United States. He was naturalized on 9 October 1852 in the Court of General Quarter Session in Philadelphia. In 1855, Samuel lived Shippen below Broad, Philadelphia. Samuel was a laborer between 1855 and 1880. He married Mary Jane Ironside. Samuel and Jane appeared on the census of 1860 in Philadelphia's 1st ward with their daughter Mary. Between 1863 and 1866, Samuel lived 721 Lindsay, Philadelphia. Samuel's wife Jane died on 1 April 1866. Samuel married Sarah Gregg soon afterwards.
Samuel and Sarah appeared on the census of 1870 with their children Mary and Samuel in Philadelphia's 20th ward. Samuel and Sarah appeared on the census of 1880 with their children Hugh, Robert and Rachel at 30th and Uxford Streets, Philadelphia. In 1883 Samuel lived at 953 South 15th Street.
Samuel Mahorter died on 18 June 1883 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Philadelphia of pneumonia pleurs. He was buried on 20 June 1883 at Philadelphia's Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
