Richard and Mary Ellen had seven children, four daughters and three sons.

Richard's obituary reads, "RICHARD F. OBERLEY, 76, died Friday at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, Indianapolis. Born in Allen County, he retired in 1990 as part owner of Zulu Garage in rural Monroeville after 45 years. He also was the co-owner and operator of 4-Aces Tavern in Tillman from 1969 to 1993. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Ann; four daughters, Diane M. Edwards of West Bloomfield, Mich., Darlene R. Lorenz and Donna J. Bruggner, both of Fishers and Dina A. Oberley of Santa Monica, Calif.; three sons, Dale J. of Fort Wayne and Dean A. and David L., both of Monroeville; two brothers, Harold A. and Elmer Jr., both of Monroeville; four sisters, Maybeel Feasby of Columbia City and Jeanette Castle, Mary Ann Walker and Carol R. Mills, all of Fort Wayne; and 12 grandchildren. Prayers at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church, New Haven. Calling from 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with rosary at 8 p.m. Burial in the church cemetery, with military graveside honors by American Legion Post 330 and VFW Post 2457, both of New Haven.
