Obituary
Philip Louth died August 16, 1903, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 14 days. His wife died 20 years before him, and also six daughters and 2 sons preceded him into eternity. Three sons with their families are left to mourn his departure. Mr. Louth was born, July 2, 1818, in Odernheim, Rheinhessen, Germany. He was married to Sophia Enz. This union was blessed with eleven children, 6 daughters and 5 sons. He came to this country in the spring of 1854, to Delphos, Ohio, and settled in Van Wert county, on the east line near Spencerville, where Mr. Becker now lives. Mr. Louth was one of the first settlers from Germany in this part of the country, and he was at the time of his death, the oldest of them, but one remaining Mr. Fissle, who came to this country one year after. He was generally loved and respected as a good citizen. He was a member of [the] Reform church in Spencerville [and] remained faithful to it and as [far] as we can judge to his God till his death, and we hope he entered into the rest of the people of God which he so earnestly desired. The obsequies were held from the West Union church, one-half mile west of his home, conducted by Rev. Ph. Steinhage. Interment was at Delphos.
