  11.   Obituary, unknown newspaper.

Norbert Louis Cassidy, 89, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday morning, May 9, 2010, at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.

He was born May 20, 1920, outside a small southern town in Indiana, to William E. and Mary Ellen (Peter) Cassidy. He married Ruth Scherger Feb. 23, 1946, in St. Andrew Catholic Church in Liberty.

Survivors include two daughters, Idella (John T.) Moore of Tiffin and Bonnie (David L.) Bain of Fremont; four sisters, Bernice Holman, Rosalie (Eugene) Holman, Irene Holman and Marjorie Cassidy, all of Fostoria; two grandchildren, Patricia (Kenneth) Sharp and Timothy Bain, both of Fremont; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Ashlyne Sharp; brother-in-law, Robert Steinmetz of Pemberville; and sister-in-law, Helen Cassidy of New Riegel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth, in 1997; a son, Norman K. Cassidy, in 1973; three brothers, Matthias, Omer, and James Cassidy; and a sister, Cornelia Steinmetz.

Norbert moved to Ohio at the age of 20 and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and worked 30 years for American Standard, retiring in June of 1979. After retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively. They toured most of the lower 48 states. He was a very independent man who thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet of rural living. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and daily tending his garden. He answered a four year call to duty with the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in the European Theatre where he received the Purple Heart. Norbert was a member of the American Legion Post No. 354 in New Riegel.

There will be no visitation and a private graveside service took place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Military honors were conducted by the New Riegel American Legion.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, the Diabetes Association or to St. Mary Catholic Church.

Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, is assisting with arrangements.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gase and his staff and Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center where Norbert had been a resident for the past year.
