Melanie Carriere was born 5 Sep 1788 to Pierre Carriere and Marie Louise Vivarette. She was baptized at home, probably soon after birth, and then was supplied the ceremony for baptism on 23 July 1796 at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Several of her siblings were baptized this same date.
She married Valeri Bello, the son of Donato Bello and Suzanne Moreau, on 14 October 1806 at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas.
Her husband died sometime before the end of June 1832 when his succession was opened.
Melanie herself died 24 September 1878 at the estimated age of 95 years--she was 90. She was buried at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Chataignier, Louisiana. Although her burial record cites a church in Eunice, the church in Eunice didn't open until 1901 when it was opened by the pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel which was closed from 1901-1905. The priest took the records from Our Lady of Mount Carmel dating from 1869 to 1901 to St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Eunice, LA where they were permanently stored.
