Kathleen Mary Reid was born on 29th January 1891 at Monasterevin in County Kildare. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Reid, formerly Bowe, and her husband William Reid, a bricklayer. Her birth was registered as "Mary Catherine Reid", but both the 1901 and 1911 censuses she is recorded as "Kathleen", and when she married her name was recorded as "Catherine Mary", yet she signed "Kathleen Mary", suggesting that is what she called herself. Kathleen appears in both the 1901 and 1911 census living with her parents and siblings at Mary's Lane in Monasterevin. In 1911 she was described as a teacher.

In 1920, Kathleen was married at Terenure Catholic Church in the southern suburbs of Dublin to a doctor named Daniel McCormack, who was from Dundrum in County Tipperary. At the time of their marriage Kathleen was living near Terenure, with her aunt Rosanna Reid at 4 Abercorn Terrace on Harold's Cross Road. After their marriage they moved to Dundrum. Back in Monasterevin, Kathleen's father died in 1924. Her mother then came to live with Kathleen at Dundrum, and Kathleen was the informant for her mother's death in 1937. She has yet to be traced after 1937.
