  Mary Ellen, Salutatorian of Howard High School graduating class of 1921, Howard, KS.  Graduated from School of X-Ray and Lab. Techiniques, Osteopathic Hospital, Wichita, KS; X-Ray Lab. Tech. Wellington, KS hospital; on school board 9 years. library board, den mother Cub Scouts, WSCS, conductress Eastern Star, acomplished public speaker.

    MARY ELLEN SNODDERLEY
    Mary Ellen Snodderley passed away Monday, December 9, 1996 at Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita. She was 75 years of age, and a longtime Howard resident. Mary Ellen was born April 10, 1921 at Howard, KS to Albert Orestus and Edith Hester (Collins) Andrews. She graduated from Howard High School in 1939 and grew to womanhood in the Howard community. After high school, she attended a year of college in Wichita.
    On July 17, 1945 she married Lyman Snodderley at Wellington and to this union were born two sons, Paul and John. During her life, Mary Ellen lived in Harper, KS and Oklahoma city, but was a resident of Howard during most of her life. She was a dedicated wife and mother, and devoted her life to caring for her family.
    She was an active member of the Howard High School Alumni Association and the American Legion Auxiliary of Carter-Rader Post #149. She currently served as secretary of Columbia Chapter #142, Order of the Eastern Star at Howard and was a longtime member of the Howard United Methodist Church and the UMW Circles of the Church. She is survived by her husband, Lyman of Howard, her sons, Dr. Paul Snodderley of Ft. Collins, CO and John Snodderley of Post Falls, ID; a brother, Albert Andrews of Wichita, a sister, Clarice Anderson of Takoma Park, MD; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Bernadine Weyrauch, Iva Jordan, Beulah Shepard, Eunice Rhodes, and Emaline Leonard, and her brother, Richard Andrews.
    Funeral services were held Thursday, December 12, 1996, at the Zimmerman Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Cooper of the Howard United Methodist Church officiating. Betty Russell was the organist with Barbara Greenwood and Mary Harrold singing "Precious Memories" and "Abiding Love." The casket bearers were Richard Fish, Joe Light, Bill Redmond, Gary Snodderley, John Snodderley, and Dr. Paul Snodderley. Eastern Star services were conducted by Columbia Chapter #142, O.E.S. of Howard. Interment was held in Grace Lawn Cemetery at Howard. A memorial has been established with the Howard United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left with the funeral home. The funeral arrangements were made with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

    Mary Ellen died of cancer.
