Margaret Long was born on 12 Sep 1855 in Kentucky. She was Miriam’s paternal grandmother. The 1860 census lists her as the second oldest child in the family living in Cynthiana, Harrison, Kentucky, and she had two sisters and a brother, all four of them under 7 years old. Her father was only a laborer, and neither he nor her mother could read and write, so it must have been a hard life growing up. She married Patrick McDermott on 14 Apr 1875 in Lexington, Fayette, Kentucky and they lived in Boyle, Kentucky in 1880. They lived at 192 West High Street in Paris, Kentucky in 1900. They had 5 children and they all graduated from high school. She lived in Jefferson, Kentucky, USA in 1920. Patrick died in 1913 and Margaret died on 27 Jan 1945 in Paris, Bourbon, Kentucky, and was buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
