Lois M. Hynes was born on October 15, 1920 to Donald and Caroline (Eastman) Baird on the family farm near Dolliver, Iowa. At the age of 18, her family moved to Estherville, Iowa. She graduated from high school in 1939 in Armstrong, Iowa. She then moved to Mankato, Minnesota for a couple years. On January 19, 1942 she was united in marriage to Edward Hynes at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. The couple moved to Moline, Illinois, Mason City, Iowa, Dolliver, Iowa and Madelia, Minnesota before settling in Fairmont, Minnesota in 1945. Here the couple began Ed T. Hynes Refrigeration which they owned and operated from 1948 until their retirement in 1995. Following Ed's death she remained living in Fairmont. In 2001, Lois moved to Luverne, Minnesota to be near her daughter, Mary. On Tuesday, February 9, 2010 Lois died peacefully under hospice care at the Good Samaritan Society - Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 24 days.

Lois was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Luverne and a former member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, St. Martha’s Circle, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, sewing, and crocheting. She also had an interest in restoration of upholstery in Model T Fords and Pioneer cars. She enjoyed exhibiting restored cars in area parades and events in Martin County in the 70's and 80's.

She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Mary Keck of Luverne, Minnesota, and Kathryn Brockman and her husband Jim of Alexandria, South Dakota; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Cole of Fairmont, Minnesota; son-in-law, Lowell Schultz of Dunnell, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Donald Briese of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; and three sisters-in-law, Betty Baird of Windom, Minnesota, Dory Baird of Cannon Falls, Minnesota, and Gladys Baird of Bloomington, Minnesota; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; daughter, Carolyn Schultz; sister, Ruth Briese; four brothers, Glenn Baird, Robert Baird, Bernard Baird, and Donald Gene Baird; son-in-law, Gaylord Keck; and a brother-in-law, Donald Cole.

A tree will be dedicated in memory of Lois by Sanford Hospice of Luverne. Blessed be her memory!
