Fort Wayne Man Hurt When Auto Skidded, Dies in Gary Hospital This Morning
Unconscious to the End
Julius F. Howenstein, aged 53, 1819 Wayne Trace, died at 8 o'clock this morning at the Mercy hospital, Gary, of injuries suffered when his automobile skidded near Ainsworth Tuesday morning. He never regained consciousness.
Howenstein and a companion, believed to have been Ben Hake, 436 E. Washington boulevard, were motoring along the highway when they encountered a sharp curve. The car shot over an embankment, hurling the driver 50 feet, crushing his chest and fracturing his right leg. Howenstein's companion jumped and was only slightly injured.
Surviving the deceased are: the widow, four children, Roy, Frank, Arthur and Mrs. Ruth Herman; one brother, Charles; and two grandchildren, Mary Herman and Marvel Howenstein, all of Fort Wayne.
Howenstein was a member of the Modern Woodmen lodge and Eagles. The body was to be brought to Fort Wayne today. Funeral arrangements are yet to be made.
