  • Wooddell, Joseph, entered service 1774 Augusta County, Virginia, where resided, in Virginia Regiment against indians; entered service 1778 in Virginia Regiment; entered service as 1st lieutenant 1781 in Virginia Regiment, and served at Battles of Hot Water & Jamestown; pensioned age 80 in Pocohontas County, Virginia 1833, per County court justices Benjamin Tallman, William Cackley, Robert H. Beale, Jacob Lightner per witness William Glaven; younger brother John made affidavit then Augusta County, Virginia verifying soldier's service per County Justice of the Peace James A. McCue & County Clerk of Court Jefferson McKinney; clergyman John S. Blain made affidavit there then per County clerk of Court Henry M. Moffett; soldier died 76/26/1834; surname spelled also Woodell & Waddle. F-S11883, R2634.
