[edit] ObituaryJoseph Oscar Cousins was born December 4, 1894, son of Chester Cordenior Cousins III and Clara Ann (Thomas) Cousins. He was born in a sod house, in a family of 14 children, southwest of Rexford, Kansas. He passed away September 25, 1988 at Citizens Medical Center, Colby, Kansas after a life lived well and fully, at the age of 93 years, 9 months and 21 days. He lived with his family, finishing the eight grades of country school. He served in the U,S. Army of World War L receiving his discharge from the Army on January 29, 1919. He was united in marriage to Lillie Esther Hawkins, on August 6, 1919. To this union, two children were born, a daughter, Maxine and a son, Marvin. They moved to the present farm home, March of 1923, west of Menlo, Kansas, Joe has pursued his life 10;'1g work of farming, raising of cattle and a lover of horses, Spending many enjoyable hours with his children, grandchildren and the great-grandchildren with his driving of buggy and ponies. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Colby 57 years, American Legion, Rexford and a member of the Menlo Methodist Church. He served as Menlo Township Clerk for 41 years. Survivors are a daughter, Maxine Reuber and husband Edwin, of Ludell, Kansas, Son, Marvin Cousins and wife Mary of Colby, Kansas. Four grandchildren; Linda Pechanec, Wichita, Kansas, Marvena Chance, Colby, Jim Cousins, Menlo and Larry J. Dible, Colby, and ten great-grandchildren. Four sisters, Sarah Kropp, Colby, Mabelle Knudson, Hoxie, Marie Cousins, Colby and Belle Mathews, Clarkdale, Arizona, His wife Esther, passed away June 15,1988. The lives of many have been touched by knowing and working with Joe, with his great sense of humor. The community had been a better place to live because of him. No one lives forever, only his good works, He will be sadly missed by family, relatives and countless friends, |
