Wilson, John - born 5/11/1747 in Augusta County, Virginia; moved 1772 from settlement on Holston River (area later East Tennessee) where entered service 1776 in Virginia regiment to fight Cherokee Indians; entered service 1777 in North Carolina regiment; while visiting father in Augusta County, Virginia, entered service 1780 in Virginia regiment; entered service there 1781 as substitute for brother & served at Siege of Yorktown; resided in East Tennessee after Revolutionary War, then abt. 1807 to Lincoln County, Tennessee, where received Pension in 1832; died there 4/23/1837; administrator of estate of Mathhew Wilson (no kinship given) gave power of attorney there 1837 to agent to apply for pension; Robert & James Wilson (both no kinship given) made affidavit there then that soldier had left no widow or any children living; query letter in file 1917 from great grand-daughter Miss Margaret K. Wilson, Dodd City, Texas; query letter in file 1917 from great grand-daughter Mrs. John C. Organ, Dodd City, Texas states soldier married Margaret daughter of John Wear Jr. both served at siege of Yorktown, & their surname also spelled Ware & Weir. F-3573, R2607.
- Note: the John Wilson that married Margaret Wear was a different (and younger) John Wilson.
