There are three John Williams in the same area of CT during this period see Connecticut Nutmegger 31:547 1998 for a disambiguation of the three men. John Williams Trader, of Pomfret must have been born by 1713. He is possibly identical to the man who had a first wife Joanna before 30 Dec 1733 when at the 1st Church of Killingly John Williams renewed the Covenant with wife Joanna (she was as an adult and was baptized that same day). He had land transaction with Edward & Hannah Stewart of Killingly in Apr 1735. He certainly was the John Williams, trader who purchased land of Benjamin Sawyer and Joseph Sawyer. He married Hannah Sawyer as her first husband. A deed records "father Sawyer." His probate records dated 16 Mar 1756 names wife Hannah; eldest son Stephen, son Samuel, son Benjamin, four daughters; Ann, Abigail, Jehannah,& Mary, and sons; John and James. Benjamin and James were certainly children of Hannah Sawyer (DNA evidence in the case of Benjamin and James). Joanna and Stephen were certainly by his first wife possibly Joanna identified in Killingly.
