   In Alfred, N. Y., Sept. 18th, 1868, Mr. John Thorp, in the 74th year of his age. Mr. Thorp came to Alfred some fifty-five years since, where he remained some twenty-five years, according to the writer's recollection. From here he removed to Illinois, where he remained until some three years, when he returned to Alfred. The writer visited him during his sickness, and found him trusting in the Saviour, and quietly awaiting the approach of death. N. V. H.
