- ↑ John Skidmore, born abt. 1750. He had a deed from his brother Thomas on May 24, 1784 for a third of his father's lands in obedience to his will of 1774. He is enumerated last in North Carolina in the census of 1800 and removed to Lee Co.,Virginia, where a John, Sen. and John Jr., appear on the Tax List of 1811. He acquired land in the same year in Hancock (then Claiborne) Co., Tennessee, (which adjoins Lee Co., Virginia. HIs last will and testament (now lost) waws proved in open court in claiborne Co. on August 10, 1818. No list of his children or heirs has yet been found; these may have included all or some of the following:
1. Abraham born about 1770-80, first apppeared as a tithable in Surry Co., North Carolina, In 1799. He is prpbably the man of the same name living in Lee Co., Virginia, in 1830. Had issue, presently unknown.
2. John (Capt.) , born abt.1770/80, is probably the man who appeared in the Lee Co., Virginia, Tax List for 1810, as John Jr., along with his father. He was in Rhea Co., Tennessee, 1813-1815, where he was Captain of Militia, 30th Regt., Dec 11, 1815. Mentioned in Roane Co., Tennessee (adjacent to Rhea Co.), Court minutes of 1812-20 and in Claiborne Co., Tennessee
