John's spouse is sometimes identified as Elizabeth McMullin, though it currently does not appear as such in a search of Ancestry Family Trees. The DOM for John and Elizabeth McMullin is given as January 31, 1791 in some Tertiary Source's ^[1] ELizabeth McMullin could plausibly be considered as John's First wife.

I John Patterson being poor in health but sound in memory & mind do make ordain & constitute this my last Will and Testament in manner & form following -

In the name of God Amen. Item - To my well beloved wife Elizabeth Patterson I do leave all my lands & tenements during her natural life and at my wife's decease the land or tract on the low ground with one field on the further side of the mountain and spring on the mountain tract I leave to my four sons James, Henry, Lewis & Charles, and they four are to pay to my three daughters, Mary, Catherine & Elizabeth, to each one hundred dollars, and the girls are to live on the lands as long as they remain single.

And the mountain tract I do leave (except as before excepted one field of 20 acres more or less and a spring which is to be added to the tract on the low ground) to my four other sons William, John, Thomas & Joseph equally.

I also leave to my wife Elizabeth all my household & kitchen furniture of every kind & sort for the use of the family now living in the same, and the stock & tools of every kind I leave to those living on the farm not to be removed under any pretention whatever - only as each one now on the farm has a just right to -

Patterson, John - born 11/2/1759 in Pennsyvania; entered service 1777 in Augusta County (area later Greenbrier County) Virginia, where resided, to fight indians; applied for pension 1834 in Greenbrier County, Virginia, when County Justice of the Peace there Samuel Dickson, & Pension Application rejected; affidavit there then by John Alderson & John Miller per County Justice of the Peace George R. Gilliam, County Clerk of Court John Mathews & deputy Clerk of court John A. North; soldier applied for pension again there in 1837 & again Pension Application rejected; left widow Elizabeth, who gave power of attorney there 1853, witnessed by William & John Patterson (both no kinship given) per County Justice of the Peace George Lewis & County Clerk of Court Joel McPherson, & her Pension Application rejected. F-R8003, R1887.
