Oral Traditions

John left school at ten years of age to work in the coal mines. Later, he served as a member of the police force in Olyphant for seven years. In 1902, he started a liquor store in Childs. He was a tax collector for 12 years. He retired in 1919.

Obituary

JOHN J. MC ANDREW-FATHER (9/29/1864-1946) He was the son of Bridget Lynch from PA and Patrick McAndrew, an Irish Immigrant. He married Elizabeth Brennan in Simpson, PA on 4/24/1895 and had two children Claver and Walter. She died after Walter’s birth in 1901. Several years later he married Cecilia Clark and they lived in Archbald and had three children. Later they moved to Childs (outside Carbondale, PA) where he opened a liquor store and became involved in politics.
