John's exact date of birth is unknown. In 1820, he was listed as "over45" in the Hancock County, MS census. The estimated date of birth is based on the births of his children. 

    The children of John Culpepper, Jr. cannot be entirely proven due to loss of records in early Mississippi. Further research is needed. According to Betty T. Duckworth, Jackson, MS, 1994, "A relative, in the 1950's, had the family Bible of Rev. John Culpepper in which he notes that he performed the marriage of his daughter Agnes to John Dale. She also said that the Rev. John Culpepper died in 1837 while on a visit to his daughter at Wiggins, MS. and is buried in the Dale family cemetery. I have been to the cemetery and there is a marker for Agnes Dale but none for Rev. Culpepper. "
