    John (Bowers), H. C. 1649; … Derby, s. of George, prob. b. in Eng. was a sch.master at Plymouth, perhaps the earliest, went in the same business 1653, to New Haven, on invit. of Gov. Eaton, there taught until 1660, and after in other towns; was preach, after Pierson left Branford, in 1667, to Feb. 1673; soon after was sett. at D. and there d. 14 June 1687. His will, rec. at D. bears date 8 Jan. 1685, His w. was Bridget, d. of Anthony Thompson of New Haven, wh, surv, him, and he had there bapt. Ruth, 20 Dec. 1657; and Samuel, 5 Nov. 1665; beside Mary, prob. b. after Ruth, and bef. Samuel, wh. m. 1682, Samuel Nichols; John, b. at Guilford, 3 Dec. 1667; and Ann, wh. m. 1703, Francis French. Ruth m. John Frisbie, and next, William Hoadly.

Will dated 8 Jan 1684[/5], gives all to his wife Bridget Bower, to dispose among our children as she shall see cause.
