According to the book "Annals of northwest Alabama : including a reprint of Nelson F. Smith's History of Pickens County, Ala. (1856)" by Carl Elliott, all courthouse records in Franklin Co., AL were destroyed by fire in 1890. 1850 census with his parents and siblings in Franklin Co., AL. He could not be found on the 1870 census, but it is thought that his first wife Mary Burton Stanford died about 1869. Her two daughters, Mary and Nancy Elizabeth Stanford were on the 1870 Texas census with their BURTON grandparents.
