- McDowell, James - entered service 1777 in Rockbridge County, Virginia, where born on 4/29/1760 [note: area was then in Augusta County], son of Samuel; granted Pension 1832 in Fayette County, Kentucky; died 12/31/1843 in Mason County, Kentucky; married 9/22/1780 Mary, daughter of John Lyle & wife Elizabeth Paxton, (Marriage Bond 9/21/1780 signed by John Lyle), Rockbridge County, Virginia; widow born 11/18/1763; granted Pension 1844 in Mason County, Kentucky; children's births: Isabella 8/11/1781, Salley 4/24/1783, Samuel 7/23/1785, Juliette 10/9/1787, Polley 2/2/1790, Magdelene 4/23/1792, John L. 8/24/1794, James E. 1/31/1797, & Hester 4/27/1799; son James E. made affidavit 1844 in Mason County, Virginia F-W8430, R1678.
