- ↑ Myrtle Johnson's Notes. Myrtle states the birthplace to be in England at one point in her notes, and yet states that James' s father jumped ship from the British Royal Navy during the War of 1812 and settled in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. If, in fact, James's father jumped ship, it would be highly unlikely that he was born in England. He, most likely, would have been born in Nova Scotia. The census records for 1881 list him as being born in Nova Scotia.
