See also "N ew York in the Revolution, Vol. 1" Fernow, Berthold (1887) at p. 217 provi ding that Hieronimus Mingos was discharged on February. 5, 1779 after 9 m onths in the service (enlisted May 5, 1778). From the notes of Leona Schu lstad, Feb. 21, 1966: Hieronimus' "[p]ension began on Aug. 1, 1823, certi ficate issued on Sept. 6, 1823 and sent to Ralph Lockwood Esq., Milan, Ohi o. The allowance seems to have ended in March 1824. He [Hieronimus] resi ded in Eldridge Twp., Huron Co. when he first applied June 6, 1818. He st ated at the time he first applied that he was 64 years old the next Octob er and was born in Hanover, Ulster Co., N.Y. He served nine months und er one command and was transferred and served eight months more. He serv ed in Captain Smiths' Company, New York State Line, Colonel Livingston's R egt. and served at Newport, Valley Forge and Monmouth. (NOTE: See Batt le of Monmouth, June 28, 1778, Freehold, Monmouth Co., J.J. Valley For ge is some 20 miles N.W. of Philadelphia.) His first pension request w as denied due to a "Technicality." There is quite a story here about a s on traveling a long distance to secure witnesses, etc. Son, Benjamin a nd wife, Margaret, are mentioned." Reference he "Millspaugh Genealogy," M illspaugh, Francis C. (1959) at p. 150 providing that Greitje (Margaret) M elsbach (another spelling of 'Millspaugh' etc.) was baptized on May 1, 176 2. This is probably the Margaret who married Hieronimus Menges (Mingus ). See also Montgomery Church records. CHILDREN: 1. Daniel bapt. July 3 0, 1780; 2. Christian bapt. Jan. 19, 1783; 3. Jacob bapt. Jan. 23, 178 5; 4. Maria born Mar 18, 1787 Bapt. [sic] Mar 28, 1787 [the book provid es April and is incorrect JLP]; 5. Hannah born Dec 5, 1790; 6. Susann ah born Dec 5, 1790; 7. James born Nov 26, 1797; 8. Benjamine Milspau gh [middle name] born Oct 26, 1799." Please note the different spellin gs of Millspaugh: Milspaugh, Melsbach, etc. See also LDS FHC referenc es to the Millspagh family.  Hieronimus Mingus is found in the first US Ce nsus done in 1790 in Montgomery Town, Ulster County, New York.  For his ho usehold, he reported one male 16 years of age or older (himself), 3 mal es under the age of 16, and 3 females.  If his wife was still alive in 179 0, she would have been listed as one of the three females as the 1790 Cens us did not differentiate between females under or over 16 years of age.  B oth Hieronimus and Moses (Hieronimus' brother) are listed on page 17 6. In the 1800 Census, Ulster County, New York, at p. 186, "Jeronimus" Mi ngus is found in the census as having a family with: "one male 45 and u p, two males 16-26, one male 10-16, two males under 10, one female 26-4 5, three females under 10." In 1811, Hieronimus went to Ohio with Anson F ox (who had married Hieronimus' daughter, Susan, before they left New York ). In the will of Zacharias Hoffman, it provides that Zacharias Hoffm an of Ulster County bequeathed land he had purchased from Hieronimus Mingu s, by deed.  See also New York City Wills, 1744-1758 at Page 206 for Zacha rias Hoffman and referencing land purchased by Hieronimus Mingus. See t he "Official Roster of Revolutionary War Soldiers Buried in Ohio," (192 9) at p. 258 providing that Hieronymous Mingus, from Erie County, serv ed as a private in the 14th Regiment from Berline Heights, New York (no te that this source lists his father's name as Angus Mingus). See also D. A.R. records; however, according to James L. Powell, "Early records for D. A.R. membership may not be as accurate because requirements on proof we re not as strict then. Dates may be estimates and other information m ay be to the best of their knowledge at..." the time of D.A.R. applicatio n. Also, please note that there is no Amsterdam County; but that Marcell us is 10 miles southwest of Syracuse in Onondaga County, New York. Whi le the pension information listed above provides that Hieronimus' pensi on was granted in "1828 when he was 72," (meaning he was born in 1756), ot her records indicate that he was baptized in 1753. (NOTE: Hanover chang ed to Montgomery Township in 1782). Died Erie County, Ohio.
