HESTER CASEY UNDERWOOD CLOWER
Hester Casey Underwood Clower, 77, of Patterson Street, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Miletus, a daughter of the late Ernest F. and Dessie Cumpston Casey.
On March 7, 1942, she married Walter A. Underwood, who preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1964. She later married Clement H. Clower, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons and their wives, William W. and Janet Underwood and Brad and Sharon Underwood, all of Clarksburg; two brothers, William Robert and wife, Sara Ann Casey, Salem, and John Edwin Casey, New Port Richey, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Clebert (Helen Ruth) Casey Dodd, Valley Street, Salem; two grandsons; one great-grandson; one sister-in-law, Ann Casey, Belpre, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Dennis Dwain Underwood and one brother, Ernest Lee Casey.
Mrs. Clower was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and served on many church committees, namely, being a member of the Administrative Board, Board of Trustees, Pastor Parish Committee, Parsonage Committee and was a member of the choir.
She also belonged to Orpha Chapter No. 30, Order of Eastern Star, Salem-Teikyo University Auxiliary, Salem Garden Club, and was a past member of the Salem Country Club.
For 22 years, Mrs. Clower was employed at Salem College, later Salem-Teikyo University, serving as an administrative assistant in the office of the president. She served under Dr. K. Duane Hurley, Dr. Dallas B. Bailey, Dr. James S. Stamm, Dr. Norman B. Osborn (interim) and Dr. Ronald E. Ohl. She was a graduate of Salem College.
Friends may call at Greathouse Funeral Home, Salem, from 6-9 p.m. Thursday. On Friday morning, her body will be taken to the Salem United Methodist Church to lie in state from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., the funeral hours with the Rev. Kevin Bender, the church pastor, and the Rev. Rick Sale, a former church pastor, presiding. Interment will be in the Knights of Pythias Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ronald Ohl, Dr. Dallas Bailey, Dr. K. Duane Hurley, Harry Hartman and Dr. Robert Florian.
