Herman came from Germany while a young lad. He worked in the coalmines in Carnegie, Pa. The older men taught him the trade of barbering. He moved to Ohio where he met my grandmother Blanche Regina Phillips. They had seven or eight children. They lived on Otis Street in Akron for awhile, until they bought a house on Big Falls Ave., on North Hill in Akron. He died approx in the year of 1936 or 1937 from a ruptured appendix, and possibly pneumonia.
