    Excerpt: "Henry Christopher Auvil, pioneer settler at Davis, was born in 1863 in Barbour County. He came to Tucker County in 1882; was a forester and stonemason. He worked seven years on a tract of land in Canaan Valley owned by a Mr. Cosner; moved to Davis in 1889; built the foundation for the Landstreet mansion, and was one of the builders of the bank building.

    In later life, he was a licensed minister of the Brethren (Dunkard) Church. His wife was a Miss Walton, born near St. George."
