Living in Eatonton, Georgia at 1860, 1870 and 1880 Census. In 1860, real estate is valued at $8000 and personal estate valued at $12000. In 1870, value of real estate is $2000, personal estate valued at $5000. 1870 census says he was born in Maryland. "Destructive Fire in Eatonton Eatonton, Ga. April 6 1880 At about 3 o'clock this morning a fire was discovered in the drug store of Dr. G.W. Tanner, on Madison Street. That and the hardware and furniture store of G.W. Wardwell was entirely consumed." -Georgia Weekly Telegraph 09 April 1880 "The Eatonton Messenger chronicles the death of Mr. George W. Wardwell. Mr. Wardwell was for many years a leading business man of Eatonton, and one of the foremost citizens. He had a large heart for charity, a vast amount of energy and enterprise, and possessed a fund of humor that was the delight of his friends. He was well known in Savannah, and his business connections extended in one shape and another all over the country.
