[edit] Gabriel Bennett: Biographical InformationGabriel Bennett was the eldest son of Adam and Hannah Bennett. Gabriel's father Adam was formerly enslaved on Magnolia Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina. Gabriel first appears in Adam and Hannah's household in the 1880 Federal Census for St. Andrews Parish, Charleston, South Carolina. Adam and Hannah's household in 1880 was:
On his World War I Draft Registration (made between 1917 and 1919), Gabriel listed his birthdate as 14 April 1873. His wife's name was Elizabeth (Lizzie) Campbell and his children were Edward, Mary, Chris, and a female child. At the time he worked as a laborer at the Charleston Navy Yard. He and his wife Elizabeth lived at 6 Bogard Street, Charleston, South Carolina. Gabriel and his family were listed on the 1930 Federal Census for Charleston, South Carolina, where they were living on Philips Street. Their household members were:
