Facts and Events
Frederick A. Conley received his elementary and two years of his high school training in Kingwood, having completed his third and final years at Montgomery, Fayette County. In 1933, he graduated from New River State College, now W. Va. Institute of Technology, with an AB degree in English and Social Studies. That same year he began his teaching career at Bruceton High Schoolas an instructor. During the fall of 1937, he was appointed principal atboth the high and elementary schools. He served in this capacity until 1965, except for two leaves of absences--one for 51 months during WW II where he served with the U.S. Air Force and received an honorable discharge as Captain in 1946. The second leave was in 1951 when he completed training and later served as a Special Agent in the FBI. Some of the summer months he worked towards his Master's Degree, and also obtained several hours towards his Doctorate. At times, he was an instructor and supervisor of secondary teacher training at W. Va. University, where he had previously obtained his Master's. He was later transferred to Terra Alta High School from 1965 to 1967, and again to Kingwood High School from 1967 until his retirement in 1971. Source: Frederick A. Conley (interview) |
