    From The New Castle Record, dated Saturday, May 10, 1919:
    We have learned with regret of the death of Fleming Bowyer Caldwell at the Jefferson Hospital, Roanoke, on Thursday, May 8th, 1919 whither he had gone for an operation after an illness of some time from Bright's disease. The remains will be brought back to his home on Sinking Creek for interment on Friday. Deceased is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Robinson, of Alleghany, Mrs. P.B. Kent, Miss Georgia Caldwell, of the county, and one son, Mr. Bryan Caldwell of Roanoke. His wife died several years ago. Deceased was a Confederate Veteran, a member of the 22nd Reg. Va. Vol. He was a worthy citizen and served faithfully and well this day and generation.
