Ernest J. Johnson, 83, who had been making his home in Nashua for the past three years, died at a local hospital Tuesday afternoon after a long illness. He was born in Westfield, NS, May 10, 1866, son of the late James Johnson and Mathilda (Wamboldt) Johnson. He was a resident of Reed's Ferry since 1891 and came to this city three years ago. He made his home with his daughters, Mrs Edwin Gowing and Mrs David Doray. Mr Johnson was a past noble grand of Souhegan lodge, No. 89, IOOF, in Reed's Ferry, and was a 50-year member. Survivors include three sons, Everett E. And Arthur S. Johnson of this city and Irving E. Johnson of Merrimac, Mass; three daughters, Mrs Gowing and Mrs Doray of Nashua, and Mrs Walter Stoddard of Elkland, Pa; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Avery Johnson of Petersham, Mass; several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call at the Fisk funeral home in Merrimack Thursday from 7 to 8 pm. Friends are requested to omit flowers.

Mr and Mrs Ernest Johnson of Reed's Ferry, former residents of this city, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Christmas day in their home in that town. They were married in Cambridge, Mass Christmas eve 1887. Both are enjoying good health and both are 71 years old. At the time of their marriage Mr Johnson was employed by the Proctor Brothers Company of this city and remained in their employ as a cooper until 1891. He moved to Reed's Ferry that year to accept a similar position with Fessenden and Lowell Company, a concern he worked for 37 years. Twenty-nine were present for the Christmas dinner, including six children, ten grand children and four great grandchildren. Three of the six children reside in Nashua. They are Everett E. Johnson and Arthur Johnson and Mrs Inez Gowing. Others are: Mrs Myrtle Stoddard, Elkend Pa Miss Viola B. Johnson, Greenfield, Mass and Irving Johnson of Dedham, Mass.
