Elton J. Kunkle, 86, of Fullerton, Calif., formerly of Shafton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, from natural causes in Fullerton, Calif.
He was the son of the late Elton R. and Hazel Singer Kunkle.
He graduated from Norwin High School and received a BS in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He served his country during World War II as a Naval officer in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He retired as an engineer, a petroleum refinery expert and heavy exposure/risk insurance underwriter for Oil Insurance Association/Industrial Risk Insurers, Jardine Insurance Brokers and Bowermaster & Associates Inc. His career in insurance spanned 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Lauffer Kunkle; a daughter, Grace Ann Fredreick, of Anaheim, Calif.; a sister, Florence Kunkle Laffoon, of Manor; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif.
