WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Ellen Kareen Wardwell Major, 55, died Feb. 5, 2001, at the Inova-Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church. She was born Sept. 24, 1945, in Hanover, N.H. She was a resident of Prince William County for more than 29 years. She graduated from Springfield School of Nursing in Springfield, Mass. Mrs. Major was employed as a nurse at the Inova-Fairfax Hospital for 22 years. Survivors include her husband, James E. Major of Woodbridge; a daughter, Jennifer E. Major of Woodbridge; a stepdaughter, Renee Jarman of Mechanicsville, Md.; four sisters, Susan Holmes and Melanie Minard, both of Windsor, Vt., Penny VanWeort of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Pam Hoffmaster of Linden, Va.; two brothers, Elwin Houghton and Roy Houghton, both of Windsor, Vt.; a grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Wardwell in 1995; her mother, Marjorie Wardwell Houghton in July 2000; her father, Evan Houghton in 1990; and her natural father, Gordon Wardwell in 1945. The funeral will be held Thursday at the Mountcastle Funeral Home in Dale City. The memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. at the Old South Church, Main Street, in Windsor, Vt.
