Elizabeth Snoxell was born around 1805 at Totternhoe in Bedfordshire. In 1827 she married a labourer called Thomas Kempson. They appear to have had two children: a daughter called Rebecca in 1827, who died when she was one year old, and another daughter whom they also called Rebecca in 1830.
Thomas died later in 1830, aged about 27.
Two years later Elizabeth married again. Her second husband was a shepherd called Michael East. He was a widower, whose first wife had died in 1831. Elizabeth and Michael had several children together at Totternhoe. The 1841 census finds the family living at Church End in Totternhoe. In 1851, Elizabeth was described as a straw plaiter.
Michael died later in 1851, aged 46.
The 1861 census finds Elizabeth working as a housekeeper for a farm steward at Lower End in Totternhoe. Her youngest daughter was also living with her.
By 1871, Elizabeth was living alone at Lower End. She died in 1875, aged about 70.
