    The funeral service for Doug Owen, age 75 of Lineville, will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Concord Baptist Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.

    Mr. Owen passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.

    He was a native of Clay County and graduate of Lineville High School “Class of 1958”. Mr. Owen attended Howard College and Jacksonville State University before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1960 serving in military intelligence for 23 years. He then worked for the Defense Investigative Services for another 15 years before returning to Clay County in 1995. Mr. Owen served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons for Concord Baptist Church and was the overseer of the church cemetery. He was a member of Coppermine Volunteer Fire Department for over 15 years, loved his family and Concord Baptist Church family.

    Mr. Owen is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jimmie Jean Owen of Lineville; one daughter, Vivian Owen Whitten (Raymond) of Rainbow City; one son, Gregory Scott Owen (Nikki) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; two brothers: Jack Owen of Lineville and Gary Owen (Bettie) of Ashland and six grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents: Willie Frank Owen and Nellie Gertrude Evans Owen; twin daughters: Melissa and Teresa Owen; one sister, Kathalyn Jenkins and one brother, Billy Owen.
    Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of the arrangements.
